Hello. I’m Faye Slater. I would like to tell you a bit about myself to help you in making a decision about choosing the right therapist for you. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with thirteen years experience in the counseling field. I started my career as a grief counselor followed by a more general practice in which I saw clients with an array of problems. I found, however, that these clients were frequently seeking help for issues that were related to a troubled relationship. As I became more interested in understanding relationships, I turned my attention to a specialization in working with couples and sought education and training to hone my skills in that area. I focused my training on Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Emotionally-Focused Couple Therapy. I also benefitted from a year of study with the Couples Institute.
Credentialing and professional experience are important. I feel, however, that one of the greatest strengths I bring to my counseling practice is my own life experience in relationships. I have been married, most of the time happily, to the same man for forty years. We’re about the get the hang of this marriage thing! I’m a mother and a grandmother. I’m a sister and an aunt. I was a daughter-in-law and am a mother-in-law. By the way, those are two of the most delicate relationships on the planet! I have encountered both great sorrow and great joy in all of these relationships. I have suffered loss and grieved deeply.
The people I have learned the most from are my clients who have trusted me to listen, to care, and to guide them through their life challenges. I hope you’ll become one of them. Every encounter and every experience in life is valuable.
I am proud to be a member of the team at Pettigru Counseling Associates, one of Greenville’s oldest and most respected practices. Our team includes experienced therapists who work with all segments of the population and offer specialization in various areas. Sometimes during marriage or couples counseling, an additional problem might be identified that is outside my area of expertise. In those cases, an in-house referral can be conveniently arranged.
